ned
A planned library and command that delivers messages from programs and agents to chats, files or Claude sessions.
ned is a planned library with a small command, ned send, that takes a message from a program or an agent and delivers it where you route it: a Telegram chat, a phone through ntfy, a file, or a feed a Claude session reads. The name stands for Notification Event Dispatcher.
Status
ned is planned. Its public repository holds the design, the earlier send code it will start from, and the specs for its first version. No package is published, and none of the commands or config on these pages runs yet.
The first version sends only. Answering a message from a chat, for example to resume a waiting session, is a later phase.
What it is designed to do
A message has a kind, such as alert (something needs a person) or notice (something finished). Your config routes each kind to named providers, and ned gives the message to each of them. You get a report back with one result per provider, and ned never throws an error at the program that sent the message.
Who it is for
| Step | Your situation | Planned use |
|---|---|---|
| One person, one machine | A cron job or a Claude hook should ring your phone when something fails | ned send alert … with a user config that routes alerts to Telegram or ntfy |
| A rafa run | A loop that halts or needs a decision should reach you wherever you are | the rafa-notifications add-on, on With rafa |
| Program to program | One program writes events, another reads them, and no person is involved | a kind of your own, routed to a file only |
| ned as its own service | ned runs inside another stack, with its own store | an SQLite store and secrets from the environment |
How it will work walks through kinds, routes and providers, and the config from empty up.
How it connects to rafa
ned stays its own repository. A planned rafa add-on, rafa-notifications, would hand each event of a rafa run to ned, so rafa itself carries no notification code. ned's config is built on define-config, the same library rafa's config uses.
